Clenching or Grinding Teeth
Many people have developed a habit of clenching or grinding their teeth. Sometimes this happens due to stress during the day, sometimes it happens at night without the person being aware. If this happens to you, you will probably have experienced pain or tightness in the jaw joint, headaches, sensitive teeth, muscle strain and inevitably teeth which appear worn down, chipped or broken.
There are very simple treatments to manage this destructive behaviour and your Gentle Dentist will be able to determine the most suitable treatment plan for you.
Usually the clenching/grinding teeth habit is caused by over active facial muscles. A very effective way to minimise this activity is to relax the main muscles which causes the behaviour. This is done by very quick and painless muscle relaxing injections a few times a year.
It is also very important to protect the teeth from any further damage and one easy method is to wear a night guard which usually fits over the upper teeth and prevents the teeth from being worn down further. Your Gentle Dentist will take impressions of your teeth to allow a personalised night guard to be made.
